A wedding pet attendant handles your dog's entire wedding day, transport to the venue, ceremony participation, photos, and a trip back home before the reception starts, so you and your family can actually enjoy the day instead of running the dog around themselves. It's become one of the most requested additions to weddings we work, especially for couples who consider their dog a genuine member of the family.
More couples want their dog involved in their wedding day, and we understand why. For a lot of people, the dog was there before the relationship got serious, before the engagement, sometimes before either partner even had their own place. Leaving them out of the day can feel wrong. But weddings are chaotic, and someone needs to actually manage the dog's day so the couple isn't doing it themselves between hair and makeup. That's what a wedding pet attendant is for.
Ceremony logistics
If you want your dog present for the ceremony itself, a few things need to be worked out ahead of time:
- Venue approval, since not every location allows dogs, especially indoor venues or ones with strict facility rules
- A calm arrival plan, getting your dog to the ceremony without them being overstimulated by cars, crowds, or new environments right before the moment matters most
- A clear plan for where your dog goes immediately after their part of the ceremony, since most dogs don't need to sit through the entire thing
A pet attendant handles all of this, arriving early enough to let your dog settle in, walking through the ceremony flow ahead of time, and staying close enough to step in the moment your dog needs a break.
Ring bearer duty
Having your dog carry the rings (or a decorative version, with the real rings kept safe with the officiant or best man) is one of the most popular requests we get. It photographs beautifully and it's a genuinely sweet moment. The keys to making it work smoothly:
- Practice the walk beforehand, ideally at the actual venue if possible
- Use a lightweight, secure ring pillow attachment that won't bother your dog or fall off
- Have your pet attendant walk just out of frame, ready to redirect your dog calmly if they get distracted or nervous
- Have a backup plan (a decoy walk without the real rings) if your dog isn't feeling it that day
Dogs don't know it's a big day, and that's actually a good thing. It just means the plan needs to accommodate however they're feeling in the moment, not force a perfect take.
First-look and portrait photos
A lot of couples want photos with their dog before the ceremony gets underway, often during the traditional first-look portion of the day. A pet attendant keeps your dog calm, clean, and camera-ready during this window, handling bathroom breaks, water, and any last-minute grooming touch-ups before the photographer is ready.
This is also usually the easiest part of the day to include your dog in, since it's typically a smaller, quieter setting compared to the ceremony or reception.
Transport to and from the venue
Getting your dog to the venue and, just as importantly, getting them home before the reception kicks into gear, is one of the most overlooked parts of wedding-day dog planning. Our Pet Taxi service handles exactly this: a calm, secure ride to the ceremony, and a return trip home once your dog's moment is done, so they're back in a comfortable, familiar space rather than stuck in a car or a crate at the venue for hours.
Back-home care during the reception
Very few dogs need to be present for the reception itself. Loud music, a big crowd, and hours of standing around isn't fun for most dogs, no matter how social they are. Once ceremony and photos wrap up, your pet attendant brings your dog home, settles them in with food, water, and a walk, and checks in periodically through the evening. You get the photos and the meaningful moment without worrying about your dog stuck in a corner of the reception hall for six hours.
What our wedding pet service actually includes
- A dedicated, trained pet attendant for the day
- Transport to and from the venue through our Pet Taxi service
- On-site handling during the ceremony and any planned photos
- A calm return home and normal evening routine once the dog's part of the day is finished
- Full communication with your day-of coordinator or planner so the schedule stays coordinated
We're fully insured and bonded and CPR and First Aid Certified, which matters more than people expect on a day with unfamiliar environments, new people, and a lot of noise and movement. Having handled reactive and anxious dogs through years of rescue work with Save the Satos and Eleventh Hour Rescue, Luigi and Alison built this service with the assumption that even a normally easygoing dog might get nervous on a day this different from their routine.
Planning ahead
Book your wedding pet attendant as early as you book your other vendors, ideally as soon as your venue and date are confirmed. Popular wedding dates fill our calendar the same way they fill up photographers and florists.
